E3 2015 – SuperChargers Interview
E3 2015 saw the announcement of some new Skylanders heading into the new SuperChargers game. Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser were the two big surprises. But they also showed a new cool looking undead SuperCharger in Fiesta and another returning favorite in Deep Dive Gill Grunt. Check out this SuperChargers interview and demo that Activision did at E3.
Skylanders Superchargers Announced
Today Activision announced the fifth game in the Skylanders series: Skylanders Superchargers. The new game will feature land, sea, and air vehicles for Skylanders to pilot during their adventures. There will be a total of 20 new vehicles to collect. These vehicles will transport into the game via the portal just like Skylander figures do. However, unlike Skylanders figures, these vehicles do not have bases, so you can actually play with the vehicles. Hot Streak, which comes with the game, is a car with wheels that actually roll making it a more playable Skylander toy. Even if the vehicles don’t have wheels like Dive Bomber and Sky Slicer they still will have moving parts and be more fun to play with outside of the game.
So I know what you are thinking, “Vehicles? Great now we have even more to buy!” Well, that’s not really true this year. This time around, the character collecting will be more reasonable. There will only be 40 new toys to collect. 20 of them are vehicles and 20 of them are new or returning Skylander figures. That is just two vehicles and two Skylanders per element (yes, light and dark are elements are coming back). Some characters are returning like Super Shot Stealth Elf, while others like Spitfire and Stormblade are brand new.
There is no word yet on how many figures will be returning vs. being brand new, but the returning characters are going to be very different. Super Shot Stealth Elf not only looks different but will also have new skills and powers. There will be no mistaking which game the returning figures belong to.
You might expect that a new portal will be required. Surprisingly it is not. Old portals will work with Skylanders Superchargers. However, the new portal looks pretty cool, and seems a bit bigger which will probably be good for what appears to be larger vehicles. This new portal is slightly larger and shaped like a race track so that you can fit a vehicle and a character on it at the same time. On the downside, villains captured from Trap Team will NOT be playable in Superchargers. However, they will unlock special Skystones for the Skystones mini game.
Each vehicle will have special challenges or races to compete in on various levels. They are like the movement challenges in Swap Force. Rewards found in these challenges can be vehicle mods. You can then install these mods to give your vehicle better stats. It’s sort of like finding a hat for your Skylander but much cooler. Also, if you pair a vehicle with the right Skylander, you will be able to enter a special supercharged mode for even more power. It sounds like there is a lot to look forward to in Superchargers.
When I first heard the rumors of a vehicle based Skylanders game, I was a little skeptical. But now that I’ve watched the trailer and have seen some footage, I am pretty excited. I think it will be a lot of fun, and for my kids, it will probably give them more exposure to racing and flying gameplay which will surely make other games with that kind of gameplay more attractive to play.
I’m also excited that it won’t cost and arm and a leg (hopefully) to buy all of the figures and vehicles. I have not yet seen any pricing on vehicles so I’m assuming they won’t be more expensive than a Swap Force figure. So buckle up and get ready to go on a ride. Skylanders Superchargers will be here before you know it. It will be released on September 20th which I believe is the earliest release of a Skylanders game yet.
For now, check out the reveal trailer below.

This week the new toy in the Happy Meal at McDonalds are Skylanders Trap Team toys. I believe this is the third year that McDonalds has had a Happy Meal promotion with Skylander Toys. It started with Skylanders Skylanders Giants, and continued with Swap Force. Now there are six toys to collect in Happy Meals, featuring Skylanders and Villains from Trap Team. The characters available are in the picture. Happy (meal) hunting!

A couple weeks ago, a check of the big name retail websites, showed that Enigma was in stock at a couple of the nearby Targets. With no signs of Flip Wreck or Fling Kong anywhere online I decided to wait a bit. Well tonight, on a whim I decided to check out Toys R Us. Mostly I was just looking to grab a few traps that I have missed so far. At first I saw Enigma, which wasn’t too shocking. Upon closer inspection I saw that they had both Flip Wreck and Fling Kong on the shelves. I also found the Air Toucan, though I didn’t notice many of the new traps that have yet to be released. I did however, pick up a couple of the Wave 3 traps that I never really saw in stores. That makes me wonder if the Wave 3 traps ever came out with or if they were pushed back. If you remember, Wave 3 seemed to be most affected by the west coast shipping strike. In any case my trap information is far from official, it’s mostly just what I have observed and have seen through rumors. I also didn’t see any single packages of Snap Shot, Food Fight, or Deja Vu. I have no idea if they will get their own separate releases, but in the past most of those characters did get single character releases and they usually happen in Wave 5. They are also somewhat limited as not many people would already have the packs that they came in. But Blades has already been released as a single character having also come with the Nightmare Express pack. As far as waves go, Wave 5 isn’t very large. Hopefully the rest of the traps and any single version characters will make there way out soon, but for now the main three new Wave 5 Skylanders are out at my local Toys R Us. If they are out at mine, then there is a good chance they might be at yours.

It looks as though, Wave 4 Skylanders are starting to hit store shelves. I know this seems a little strange since many Wave 3 characters never really showed up at some stores. It seems like the blame for a majority of that and the delay of Wave 3 and 4 Skylanders has to do with the port strikes on the west coast. The strikes have since been resolved, but reports claim that it could be up to six months until all of the ships that have been parked off the coast can effectively offload all of their goods. Despite that, new characters are starting to hit store shelves. I wonder if companies have started either shipping through other ports, or using air-mail or what. I was at my local Toys R Us today and they had 90% of all of the new characters for Wave 4. They even had Bat Spin and High Five, which I thought were supposed to be in Wave 3, but never showed up. I also saw a few of the traps that were supposed to be in Wave 3 like the Totem design and snake design. I also stopped by Walmart and Gamestop but they did not have any of the new characters. Walmart did have the Tidal Wave Gill Grunt & Gill Runt two pack as well as the Full Blast Jet-Vac & Pet-Vac two pack. Both of those two packs are exclusive to Walmart. Expect these Wave 4 characters to start showing up at your favorite retailer soon!

I was in my local Target this morning and noticed that they had one each of the Dark and Light Element expansions for Skylanders Trap Team. Now a quick check of some other online retailers shows that most retailers have received some stock. Currently my local Best Buy also shows that they have some in stock. So if you have missed out on these two expansion packs, head on over to our Dark Expansion, or Light Expansion page and check out the Best Buy link and see if you can find one at your local Best Buy for store pick-up.

December 21st marks the release of the Light Element Expansion Pack and the Dark Element Expansion Pack. It also seems to mark the beginning of the Wave 3 release characters. Toys R Us once again will have a temporary jump on other retailers. This morning at my local Toys R Us, I saw both of the new expansion packs, two new mini packs: Gill Runt with Thumpling and Small Fry with Weeruptor, and two new core Skylanders in Cobra Cadabra and Trail Blazer. I did not see the two new core Skylanders of the light and dark elements that were rumored to be out with the expansion packs. However, my local Toys R Us employee said they are expecting more characters on Tuesday or Wednesday and then again after Christmas. There are rumors of other characters that will be part of a Wave 3 release. Be sure to check out all of the possible Wave 3 figures that we have pieced together here. By early January we should see all of Wave 3 characters in stores.
