Dune Bug - Metallic RedSo far each year of the NY Toy Fair brings us a new exclusive Toy Fair edition Skylander. These are extremely rare as they are limited to attendees of the Toy Fair and they usually sell for hundreds on eBay. In 2012 the Toy Fair brought us one of the first colored variants with Cynder – Metallic Purple. Then in 2013 the show brought us Chop Chop Series 2 – Metallic Blue. Nitro Freeze Blade Release Date

Nitro Freeze Blade Release DateThanks to Target.com it looks like the Nitro Freeze Blade release date will be March 23rd, 2014. It appears that Target will continue to be the “exclusive” provider of the “Nitro” variant characters. Just like Nitro Magna Charge, a product page found on Target.com here, holds the “Only at Target” symbol on it. (If that link is dead then look at the pic I captured here!) The page also reveals the release date for the character to be 3/23/2014. Compare this to the earlier leaked information by Best Buy, and it looks like we are starting to get a picture of when the 4th wave of characters will probably be released. This is the earliest release date so far so it looks like wave 4 should be in full force by the end of March. Remember this is a listing only for the special variant Nitro Freeze Blade, I expect the regular Freeze Blade to be available in Wave 4 at all retailers.

They have turned out to be a family favorite, as they are little Skylanders stamps that my kids love. Name The Next Skylander Frito-Lay Promotion

Name the Next Skylander 2014Frito-Lay and Skylanders are teaming up once again. This time its not about getting a special character for your collection. Now they are going to let the winner “Name the Next Skylander.” The contest starts 2/24/14 and they have a countdown timer on their website here. It looks like once again contest entries will come in specially marked bags of snack packs. Both the Classic Mix and Flavor Mix. It also looks like each bag will come with a $5 coupon towards a Starter Pack. Not as good as the previous $10 off coupons. Personally, I’m a little disappointed.  I rather like knowing that I should get a character when I buy the bags and send in a coupon vs just entering a contest that I am most likely not going to win. I would also bet that they are not going to let you name the character whatever you want. They probably have a list of three to five names already possible for the Skylander and they will probably just let the winner make the final decision. If that is the case, there could conceivably be multiple winners. No chance of me naming a character “SkylanderNutts.com” or “Marcus Pheonix” (Although..should there be another fire breathing bird….)

Wave 4 Release Date Outed?

SpringTimeTriggerHappy_BestBuyA strange thing happened the other day on the Best Buy website. For a short period of time, they had three new Skylanders available for pre-order. The available date was April 6, 2014. Now that’s a long time away, and the listings have since been removed. But it makes one wonder, was that the release date for the next wave of Skylanders? Perhaps Best Buy was waaayyy ahead of Punk Shock Best Buythemselves and that was some wave 5 characters? It’s hard to know but the images leave a lot of questions that fans will probably have wait to find out the answers too.

The characters shown were Fryno, Punk Shock, and Springtime Trigger Happy. What was most intriguing about the listings was the packaging that was shown. Each figure came in special “Easter Egg” colored packaging. Fryno_BestBuyThis raises a lot of questions. Are these characters only going to be available around Easter? Are these special Easter edition packaging for characters that might be released a month earlier in regular packaging? Are these characters exclusive to Best Buy? Are all characters going to have Easter packaging at Best Buy around this time? Will they still be available early for pre-order much like the silver Heavy Duty Sprocket was? Is the wave 4 release date going to be April 6, 2014? I’m afraid I don’t have the answer to any of these questions. Hopefully Wave 4 comes sooner than that, but at least we know the Easter Bunny should be bringing a few new Skylanders to this house!
