The Gulper – Villain Review
The Gulper is a Water trappable villain that you will be able to capture at the end of the first level – Soda Springs. He is the first Doom Raider villain you will be able to catch. From an early age, The Gulper had an enormous appetite and insatiable thirst for anything he could stuff in his mouth. At a young age, he won first place in the annual Deep-Fried-Triple-Cheeseburger eating contest and has worn the Crown of Gluttony every since. However, it is his love for soda which causes him to grow to colossal proportions and go on rampages. This caught the eye of the Golden Queen. The Golden Queen was looking to recruit someone who was incredibly dim-witted so that if they were ever captured, the Skylanders would not be able to extract any useful information. The Gulper fit that description perfectly.
The Gulper is a Doom Raider villain so he has three attacks instead of the typical villain two attacks. His main attack is his trident. The thrusts his trident out in front of him, and it will actually pick up smaller targets and throw them over his head. Larger targets will just suffer some damage. His second attack is a bite that will damage multiple enemies at the same time. He can even swallow smaller enemies whole. The Gulper is a pretty slow character, so his third attack can help with that a little. For Gulper’s third attack, he will get a burst of speed as he slides on his belly. He will damage anyone he runs into, but he will also leave a slime trail which will also damage any enemies who walk through it. The slime trail stays active for quite a long time, so it would be a good idea to use Gulper to slime up some of the arena battles in the early levels. The Gulper doesn’t have the most exciting or powerful attacks, but seeing as he is the first Doom Raider you catch and he can be evolved at the beginning of the second level, he can deal a little bit more damage than an early level Skylander. He’ll be useful in the early levels.
You’ll find The Gulper’s quest in the very beginning of level 2 – Know-It-All-Island. It is one of the challenge quests where you actually have to work a little for the upgrade. As The Gulper you must return 10 balloons to Mabu children, in ten minutes or less. It’s not very hard to do especially since The Gulper can carry four balloons at a time. Once completed, The Gulper will evolve and turn green. In this evolved state, his attacks will be more powerful, and his Slime Slide will go farther.
Overall, The Gulper is a very average villain to use. Since you capture him so early, he will probably be useful in the early levels, until your Skylanders level up to a level that can do more damage. Or until you capture some heavier hitting villains. He isn’t weak, but he also isn’t terribly powerful. His attacks don’t do a wide area of damage or even much of a range of damage, but he will be able to take out villains as long as they don’t have great numbers. He’s not very fast but he can use his Slime Slide attack to get out of trouble and to deal some additional damage. He also will stay active a little longer than average once he is evolved. He’s worth trying in the early levels, but other more interesting villains will soon fight for his villain time.
