While just an egg, Cynder was stolen by the henchmen of an evil dragon named Malefor and raised to do his bidding. For years, she spread fear throughout the land until she was defeated by Spyro the Dragon and freed from the grip of Malefor. But dark powers still flow through her, and despite her desire to make amends for her past, most Skylanders try to keep a safe distance… just in case.
Cynder - Crystal Clear was a GameStop exclusive character when Spyro's Adventure was released. GameStop was giving this character away for free in a $299 Spyro's Adventure bundle.

A few people dispute GameStop's exclusivity claiming that they had seen the character on store shelves. It might be the case that a few characters were released randomly into the wild before GameStop grabbed the exclusivity.
There were three other crystal variants with Spyro's Adventure: Stealth Elf - Crystal Clear, Whirlwind - Crystal Clear, and Wham-Shell - Crystal Clear.
